Project context

Why this project, for whom.

Since 1989, Scutum has built a strong position in high-quality security and safety services. With its 360-degree Cyber by Scutum offer, the group supports customers from expatriate safety to protection against cyber risks.

Before the project, Cyber by Scutum was presented only on one page of the group website, with very limited information. Scutum needed a dedicated e-commerce website to present the offer, show its expertise and enable online subscription.

The website as the main subscription channel

The main goal was clear: create an e-commerce website to sell digital services online and make the website the primary subscription channel.

  • Enable online subscription to Cyber by Scutum offers.
  • Promote the Cyber by Scutum offer by highlighting Scutum's expertise and experience.
  • Improve the user experience with a fully custom customer area.
  • Deploy an SEO-ready e-commerce website to support organic visibility.

Subscription management through Stripe

The project was not based on a classic physical-product catalog, but on subscriptions to licenses. SEPA direct debit was also required, making the Stripe integration central to the build.

  • Stripe Checkout for subscription by SEPA or card, with conditions tailored to Scutum's needs.
  • Stripe Billing to manage subscriptions, invoices, payment methods, changes and cancellations.
  • Stripe webhooks to send order data into BigCommerce and keep commercial operations fluid.

For the end customer, the experience remains seamless: Stripe checkout is customized with Scutum's colors, while operational management stays centralized in BigCommerce.

From a showcase page to an adapted e-commerce site

Moving to e-commerce made it possible to expand the information available about Cyber by Scutum while enabling direct subscription to the offers.

Methodology

The Scutum and Smotly teams worked as one team to meet the launch deadline, with a project organized around clear milestones.

  • Scoping workshops: brief, company presentation, existing-state analysis, technical and functional scope, benchmark and competitor review.
  • Creative workshops: personas, site structure, wireframes, visual direction and mockups.
  • Implementation aligned with the approved mockups and integration of content provided by Scutum.
  • Internal and external QA, with multi-device and multi-browser testing.
  • Training on BigCommerce and Strapi so Scutum teams could stay autonomous on content, customers and administration.

Project highlight

An e-commerce journey adapted to subscriptions and subscription management

Unlike many e-commerce sites, Scutum does not sell tangible products here, but digital services. This product type required a fully adapted customer journey.

  • A simple pricing page where the customer enters the data needed to choose a plan, with automatic price adjustment and direct basket addition.
  • Monthly or annual subscription with a 12-month commitment and payment by card or SEPA.
  • A custom customer account for client data, license and subscription history, and dashboard documents from the SentinelOne ERP.
  • Pipedrive connections for email campaigns and the customer database.
  • A Zendesk widget for after-sales support and ticket tracking.
  • The Stripe x BigCommerce combination to manage subscription rules and SEPA payment.

« The collaboration with Smotly for the design of our e-commerce website proved to be a real success. Project management by Floriane was exemplary, ensuring effective follow-up and coordination of tasks. Thomas, the technical lead, has perfect command of BigCommerce and guided us toward the best choices for peripheral tools (CRM, support tool, payment solution, two-factor authentication tool...) which he integrated efficiently thanks to his API expertise. Their flexibility in adjusting the quote to add or remove features was crucial in respecting our budget and expectations. Despite a tight three-month deadline, they delivered a high-quality project on time. Their professional yet friendly approach made this collaboration not only productive but also very pleasant. »
