Why you should not neglect SEO?

With more than 1.7 billion websites in the world, having a website is not enough: it has to be visible. For this to happen, you need to work on your SEO (Search Engine Optimisation), which will allow you to be better placed in the search engine results, and to attract users to your site.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) refers to all the techniques and methods used to improve the ranking of a site on search engines.

The importance of SEO

Google searches are your main source of traffic.

Search engines are now indispensable. Nearly 90% of all searches, in all fields, are made on the Internet. Google is the leading search engine, with over 700,000 queries made every second.

Thus, being able to appear among the first results of search engines is essential for your visibility. Indeed, 75% of users do not go beyond the first page of results, and only 9% go to the bottom of the first page.
To complete these figures, 60% of Internet users click on one of the first three results of their search. Being among the first is therefore a real challenge to attract people to your site!

A good positioning strengthens the credibility of your company

Optimising your natural referencing also gives your company more credibility, both in the eyes of Google and in the eyes of your customers.
Indeed, if you appear among the first, it means that you offer content that is very relevant to the user's query. This will strengthen your customers' trust in your site.
Being present on the first page of search results means that your content meets the expectations of Internet users. Indeed, Google's algorithm works in particular according to the relevance of your content to users' requests.

Good SEO also means a better user experience

SEO is very important in terms of customer experience, since the main issue is to get users to visit your site. Indeed, the customer experience brings together all the elements of interaction between the user and your company and its goods or services. A good customer experience includes a low loading time. Indeed, 53% of Internet users would leave a site if it takes more than 3 seconds to load. So make sure you optimise the technical aspect of your pages to reduce their loading time.

Optimising your site to make it user-friendly and enjoyable will increase your chances of getting visits to your site. Having a good SEO will allow you to appear among the first on search engines: your customers and prospects will easily find your site, and this will make their experience more pleasant.

Some SEO trends for 2021

Qualitative content

Content is an important part of your SEO strategy because Google values the relevance and quality of content above all else.

Your content should be of high quality and precisely targeted to meet the needs of your users. Your content should also be written in a simple and understandable way to make it easy for your visitors to read.

Quality content also means anticipating the questions that your customers or prospects might ask, in order to answer them in the most optimal way. Working on the content also involves impeccable HTML markup.

Mobile first website

In order to maximise your SEO, you must also take into account mobile visits. Your website must be optimised for mobile. Mobile users must find the same comfort as on a computer.

Indeed, Google now values sites offering an optimal experience on mobile, with mobile first indexing. This is simply the new way that bots index websites: Googlebot crawls the mobile version of websites first (before the desktop page), which could have an indirect impact on your ranking in search engine results.

Securing

Also very much linked to SEO, having a secure website is an essential element in optimising your ranking. Google takes into account the security of websites in its ranking. Therefore, having an unsecured site will cause you to lose places in the search results.
Similarly, if the user has any doubts about the security of your site, they will quickly leave it. So you need to have a secure site to encourage users to visit and stay on your site. Thus, you must have an HTTPS site to ensure the integrity and security of the data on your site.

Customer experience

New for 2021, Google has been implementing the Core Vitals Web since this summer, consisting of three new indicators to measure the user experience. Although the relevance and quality of content still take precedence over user experience, these indicators are no less important. Indeed, if two pages offer similar content, it is these new indicators that will decide the ranking between the pages.

The Core Vitals Web includes three indicators:

  • LCP (Largest Contenful Paint): performance indicator, it measures the loading time of a page. Google recommends a loading time of less than 2.5 seconds to display the main information on a page, i.e. the title, the illustration and the contents.
  • FID (First Input Delay): a reactivity indicator, it measures the reaction time for an action performed by a user. For example, the reaction time when a button is clicked. Google recommends a reaction time of 100ms.
  • CLS (Cumulative Layout Shift): a stability indicator that measures the impact of updates to a page on a site. Google recommends a CLS of less than 0.1. The site should not contain any changes due to late loading of page elements that would shift the page blocks or its contents.

Thus, the implementation of a good SEO strategy is essential to be visible and to stand out in the competitive world of the internet. Don't underestimate the importance of SEO!

Mobile first: an unavoidable trend

What is mobile first?

Mobile first is simply putting the mobile phone at the heart of your web marketing strategy. In web design, it is a matter of thinking about your website and developing it first and foremost for mobile phones.
Beyond a responsive site, it is now a question of giving priority to mobile versions, and then adapting to other types of screens.

But why are we talking about mobile first, anyway? Well, because today, your smartphone is no longer just a phone to call or send text messages.
Yes, today, the mobile is a channel for accessing a whole world, the digital world! Finally, we understand each other. What we mean by this is that today the mobile phone offers a large number of possibilities, that we must accept it, and above all, adapt to it!

This small device is becoming a must-have. Internet users are increasingly surfing on their smartphones, to the detriment of computers. In fact, more internet users are surfing... from their smartphones! The figures for 2019 show that more than 50% of the world's web traffic was carried out via a mobile phone. This figure is expected to continue to rise over the years.

So if you haven't already done so, it's high time to think about adapting your website to the small screen.

Nowadays, mobile first is no longer an option. It will become a necessity as of March 2021 to maintain visibility on the web.

Google favours this trend

Indeed, Google, the world's most used search engine, is putting mobile first in its referencing algorithm...

Why?
Because now, beyond being present on the internet, your presence must be enjoyable! Users are expecting more fluidity, an easy and pleasant experience. So in this context, if the user wants to consult your site, it must be just as convenient as on a computer. So, in a way, Google encourages companies that take the trouble to meet this expectation, by highlighting them in its algorithm.

Four years after the idea was launched and tested, Google's "mobile first indexing" will soon be applied to 100% of websites.

This means that your pages will no longer be indexed according to the desktop version of your site. It will be based on its mobile pages. The non-adaptation of your site for mobile could lead to a decrease in your visibility.

For some time now, Google has been using the mobile version of websites as a priority for indexing.

Indexing is already partially in place.

  • This index is applied to 70% of the sites that appear in the search results
  • The index is activated for all new sites that have gone online since July 1st 2019

Full activation of Mobile First Indexing by 2021

Initially planned to be effective from September 2020, the health crisis has postponed the application of this index to March 2021. This will give the latecomers a few more months to correct their sites!

Google also sends notifications when the site is not yet ready to be indexed by its new tool.

Also, Google takes the opportunity to give some advice to companies whose sites are not yet mobile-friendly. For example, checking that the Google robot can access all the content of the site and its display, or ensuring that the content of mobile and desktop sites are identical are mentioned.

If you want to know more about how to adapt your site to mobile first, Google published an article on this subject this summer: "Get ready for mobile first indexing".

Website redesign: why should do it?

You think that your website is no longer adapted to your requirements? That its design no longer meets your expectations? The redesign of your website can be a solution.

Indeed, the digital world is constantly evolving. Both in terms of design and technology. This can quickly make your website obsolete.

Redesigning a website simply means changing the appearance and/or technology of a website (front and back). In order to better adapt it to digital developments. This can be a change in web design, tree structure or a switch to a new CMS.

Why is a website redesign useful?

There are several reasons why you might want to redesign your site.

Change the design and improve the UX

Do you have a new visual identity? Deploy it on the web by redesigning your site with this new image. Changing your design will make your website more ergonomic and provide a better user experience. Design is an important factor in standing out and increasing conversion on your internal site, so don't neglect it!

Modernising technology

The technology used to set up your site, if it is too old, can cause problems: incompatibility with certain browsers, non-responsive site, longer loading time, unsecured site... Redesigning your site will allow you to better meet the new requirements of the web.

Increasing visibility

SEO methods are constantly evolving, and your site, if it is too old, may no longer meet these requirements. Redoing your site will allow you to integrate current SEO techniques to enable you to have an optimised referencing (website structure, loading speed, qualitative content, ...). A good referencing allows you to increase your visibility!

Bringing in new features

The redesign of your site may simply be necessary to integrate new functions. These features may correspond to the evolution of your activity (new online services) or be implemented to increase the conversion rate on your site (call to action for example).

Thus, the objectives of a website redesign are simple: to improve your site to meet the requirements of the web, to give it a new look, to correct a defect or to increase your visibility.
